History of HUG Puppets Ministry

How we came to be...

The HUG Puppets started in the fall of 2004 with two girls and one adult. The stage was made with PVC pipe and bed sheets. Puppets were fairly basic, with a couple purchased from One Way Street (a great company, please visit their site) and a few cardboard props. The PA system consisted of a remote control boom box. Humble, yet effective beginnings.

Since the first performance in January 2005, our puppet collection has grown into a fairly large collection, some purchased, some hand made. Our stage was purchased (although we still find uses for those pieces of PVC), the sound system is bigger than the first stage, and we even carry around lighting trusses for special effects. We've come quite a long ways, but have just scratched the surface of where we want to be.

Since that first 3-man show, our ministry has grown immensely. Sure, we still perform in our church sanctuary, but the range that we travel to perform has steadily grown. We primarily do shows throughout northwest Iowa, but have travelled as far as 500 miles for a performance. We share our talents at churches, rest homes, schools, detention centers, county fairs, and even as an opening act for a national comedian!

As a non-profit group, we do not charge for our services, although donations to help defray costs are always welcome.
